The Keermont Companion Red is a blend of a handful of barrels that were left over after we had made up our Keermont wines for 2017. The components are in no way inferior to the components of the Keermont range, we simply had more barrels of them than were required. Interestingly, the combination has resulted in a very complete, balanced, and delicious wine. Small batches of grapes are specifically selected according to ripeness, harvested by hand and vinified separately. This process is carried out gently and naturally in open top fermenters using traditional methods only. This wine spent 27 months maturing in seasoned French oak barriques before being bottled by hand without filtration on 26/9/19. 1467 bottles were produced.

Ruby red in colour, this wine has a floral bouquet with hints of herbs, spice, and dusty fruit. The pallet is soft and spicy with a gentle, but firm tannin structure. Drink 2020 – 2027.

2017 was an excellent growing season on Keermont. Despite a drier than usual winter, we had strong growth in the vineyards during the spring time. This led to the formation of a good healthy crop which ripened evenly during the warm, dry summer. Harvest started fairly early, but was put on hold after a heavy rainfall in late January. This rejuvenated the vines and allowed for extended ripening which definitely raised the general quality. We recorded one of our largest and healthiest crops yet and grapes came in with great analysis and concentration.

  • 59% Mourvedre; 41% Syrah The Companion Rosé 2021 is made up of specifically selected batches of grapes from our vineyards. These batches are harvested early for freshness in the wine. The grapes are left on the skins for about an hour to draw just the right amount of colour before being basket pressed. The juice is fermented in seasoned French oak barrels and left to settle for about 5 months before being bottled by hand.   TASTING NOTE Pinky rose gold in colour, this wine has powerful aromas of ripe strawberry, litchi, and cut grass. The palate is soft and textured with vibrant acidity. Typical stone and berry fruit flavours are complimented by butterscotch undertones. Drink now, but will last for at least 5 years.   ANALYSIS Alc: 12.5% pH: 3.31 TA: 6.4 g/L RS: 2.3 g/L TSO2: 58 mg/L VA: 0.40 g/L

The Companion White Blend 2018 is an experimental blend made up from barrels of wine grown, produced, and bottled at Keermont. This wine is a crisp dry Viognier based blend which we matured in large, seasoned French oak barrels for an extended period of 36 months. This has resulted in a lovely rich lees character and a very soft mouthfeel.

    Tasting Notes

A polished light-yellow gold colour, this wine has a complex bouquet of prominent citrus and stone fruit with notes of vanilla and fruit blossom. The wine has a soft and rich palate. Subtle fruit flavours of peach, litchi and apricot are complimented by hints of sweet spice, vanilla, and a notable richness from the lees contact. There is good weight on the mid-palate and a light texture. A limey acidity holds the wine together into a lingering, succulent finish. Drink 2021-2030.

    2018 Vintage

Despite prevailing drought conditions, 2018 was a very good growing season on Keermont. We had a fairly cold Winter although it was drier than usual. Spring arrived quite early and the warm weather ensured an even budburst. We had some good rain showers during the season which allowed for the vines to grow sufficiently. These factors led to the formation of a healthy crop which ripened evenly. We had very notable diurnal temperature variation during this season (warm days and cool nights) which is responsible for good tannin, colour, and flavour development. Harvest started at the beginning of February and ran very smoothly. We processed 87 tons (13 varieties) in the Keermont winery over the period of seven weeks.
